Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama has made a rare appearance in the UK to mark the opening of a major retrospective of her work at Tate Modern. It is her first visit outside Japan for 12 years. The 82-year-old has lived voluntarily in a psychiatric institution since 1977 but works in a studio across the street to create her art. She is known for the signature recurring polka dots which dominate her work. |
